38 million litres of drinking water delivered to displaced populations in Vavuniya

Throughout 2009, waves of displaced Sri Lankans poured out of the Northern war zone and were accommodated in camps in an area with limited water resources. It thus became clear that access to drinking water would be a critical issue. ACTED immediately decided to participate in a large-scale water provision effort, deploying 7 water bowsers and delivering over 38 million litres of drinking water to displaced populations in less than a year. With people gradually returning to their areas of origin, ACTED has since then scaled down its assistance to camps but continues life-saving water delivery.
