3.6 million people are severely food insecure in Chad

N'DJAMENA [ACTED News] -6 out of 10 households in Chad's Sahel band are considered severely food insecure, according to a national study conducted after the latest harvest. Households in the hardest hit areas have enough stock to cover less than a month of their food needs. The study also shows that 40% of households in the Sudanian region, in the south of the country, are suffering from the same situation.

Current stock shortages, a very high level of acute malnutrition, rising prices for basic items and the deterioration of exchange assets such as livestock or cereal, are aggravating factors that give reason to fear a major food and nutrition crisis in Chad this year.
