2012 Global Hunger Index
According to the Global Hunger Index 2012 (GHI), global hunger has diminished since 1990 but remains "serious". The world global hunger average hides significant differences between regions and countries. At regional level, South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa have received the highest scores in the GHI, meaning that these are the regions of the world where hunger is most felt. South Asia managed to significantly reduce its GHI score between 1990 and 1996 by reducing the number of underweight children, however this region of the world has been unable to maintain this level of progress. Although Sub-Saharan Africa was less successful than South Asia in the 1990's in reducing it's GHI score, this region of the world caught up at the beginning of the millenium; since this time, it scores less than South Asia in the GHI.
