2010 Humanitarian planning: the challenge of Internally Displaced Populations (IDP)
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has just presented its 2010 action plan in Bukavu. The four objectives of the common humanitarian strategy put forward by OCHA are strengthening the protection of civilians, reducing mortality and morbidity, protecting displaced, moved or returnee populations and their communities as well as rehabilitate livelihoods. The end of 2009 saw the security situation severely deteriorate in DRC, where IDPs now reach 2 million, of whom 700,000 are located in the Kivus and Katanga Provinces. ACTED will continue working for the recovery and reintegration of IDPs while also working on emergency and development projects.
