This 9 month project, cofinanced by the European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Office, intervenes in a war-affected area. 12,000 people, coming from Kilinnochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya and/or Mulaitivu, are expected to directly benefit from the implementation of the proposed action. The action is particularly focused on water provision, toilet construction, installation of bathing/washing facilities and hygiene education. 20 wells will be improved/cleaned and 15 tube wells will be installed, 215 emergency latrines will be constructed as well as 55 bathing/washing facilities. Hygiene training sessions will be organised to arise community’s awareness on the subject.

This 3 and a half month project, funded by FAO, is meant to support the vaccination against PPR (“goats plague”) and CBPP (Contagious Bovine Pleuro–Pneumonia) in Nakapiripirit, Pokot and Chekwi counties and Lorengedwat Karamoja. The main objective is to have approximately 150,000 goats and sheep vaccinated against “goats plague” and 50,000 heads of cattle vaccinated against Contagious Bovine Pleuro –Pneumonia while raising public awareness on prevention and control of PPR and of other livestock diseases.

ACTED has selected the 4 target village tracts in the coastal areas of Labutta where it can implement its 4 month project. ACTED’s objectives are to improve temporary shelters for 2,500 families and to construct solid housing structures for 140 vulnerable families out of the 2,500. By providing technical assistance, these temporary shelters will be made more durable, and more comfortable for the residents. Teams of carpenters trained in the use of tarpaulins will visit each village in the target area and provide support and expertise, assisting in the fixing of tarpaulins. The aim will be to reduce the negative effects of wind and rain on the temporary housing.

The prefecture of Haut Mbomou, in the south-east part of the country, is a remote region which has been completely neglected by central authorities. It suffers from a generalised insecurity state due to the presence of armed groups and from increasing poverty. The main objective of this one year project is to fight against poverty. The project will benefit to 10 community groups who will implement 10 micro development projects. It will help also the whole communities of the targeted areas as well as 40 local NGOs of Haut Mbomou and the actors of local development.
