The two 36 month programmes will be implemented in the districts of North, South and Central Turkana, North Pokot Border areas of Samburu and Baringo. The two projects are part of the European Commission programme and of the collaboration between ACTED, Oxfam and VSF Belgium. The overall objective is to contribute to the improvement of effectiveness and efficiency of the drought management by strengthening the capacity to intervene. The final beneficiaries are 120,000 people who are extremely vulnerable to resource based conflicts and drought induced poverty. ACTED will particularly target the conflict and resource mapping, the community drought preparedness planning, the development of best practice guidelines. 80,000 out of the final beneficiaries will also benefit from access to improved quality water and from the rehabilitation of strategic water points. ACTED will work with other NGOs to make its action more efficient and lasting.
