Chad: Ensuring essential needs for Sudanese refugees in Ouré Cassoni camp by rebuilding livelihoods and supporting host community relations
Donor: European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid Bureau
Project code: 22 AAP XU
In January, ACTED Chad prolonged for the 4th year in a row its multi-sector program with UNHCR to provide assistance to Sudanese refugees in Ouré Cassoni camp as well as support the local population of Bahai. In the beginning of May, ACTED Chad also renewed with the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Office to cofund the project. The project’s activities include rehabilitating distribution centres, food and NFI distribution, construction of a Supplementary Nutritional Center at Bahai hospital, awareness campaigns on energy saving cooking techniques, reforestation initiatives and the creation of a community environmental association, and the provision of heating stoves, wood, and petrol, which meets energy requirements but also eases tension between refugee and host communities. Beneficiaries of the project include 28,092 refugees and 15,000 nationals in the Bahai prefecture.
